A Silver Cocoon
By jykwan | November 30, 2007
One morning while I was doing some gardening in my house I stumbled across a silver cocoon which was very nice to look at. For a moment I was stunned that Mother Nature could create something so beautiful naturally. While is was on my way up to get my camera, my mom plucked it out saying that she doesn’t want any thing to come and destroy the plant. Well its not like its going to do anything all cocooned up… but anyway luckily she did not throw it right away but left it on the table at the front of the house.

I am still left wondering what could have made this cocoon. I’m situated in Malaysia a tropical countryright at the equatorial. Can anyone identify what bug made this?

view from the bottom if i am correct.
Well in the end I just carefully hanged this cocoon somewhere else in the garden and totally forgot about it. I guess it would have become another nice bug, a butterfly I suppose.

I was swept up in the beauty of finding one of these today. I’m in Brisbane, Australia. I did a search for it online and was directed to your site here. Have you discovered what it is?

Unfortunately No, its quite difficult to search for it, if you do not know what insect it is….

duh! Euploea Core Corinna if you find a caterpillar with six tentacles and it is orange and black, DO NOT SPRAY IT! it is what makes this beautiful chrysalis. never spray a plantwith this caterpillar on it or you will not get a silver pupa. it is fun to pick the leaf off and put it in a big, clear container with air-holes and watch nature take its course. find a large caterpillar like i described and put it in and put the lid on. you only need a 1L box. then you can watch the caterpillar make the cocoon and also watch it hatch. make sure to let the butterfly free.
