Halong bay (Vietnam)

By jykwan | December 26, 2007

On one of my trips to Vietnam I stopped by this place called Halong Bay which is a protected scenic site of one of Mother Nature’s rare beauty. You cannot get any landscape anywhere in the world similar to Halong Bay. This time I am going to talk abit about Halong Bay. Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage located in Quang Ninh province, Vietnam. The bay features thousands of limestone karsts and isles in various sizes and shapes. The bay is approximately 120km long and the bay is approximately over 1500 square kilometers with over 1900 isles.

Halong Bay Scene

I have to say that my visit on that day was not on a good weather. Although it was a bit misty and cloudy, I could still see the beautiful landscape of Halong bay. Of course there are other highlights in Halong itself, but for this post, I am going to just show pictures of Halong Bay itself.

Well, to get around Halong Bay, you need to go by boat. The boat is not so much of a private boat but something like a tour boat. You need roughly around 20 people before the boat departs from the main land to Halong Bay. The trip takes around slightly more than half a day. The boat will bring you to the Thien Cung Caves in Halong Bay and to the fishing village and around Halong Bay to see the limestone karsts. Since the trip will be around half a day, lunch will be provided on the boat. DOn’t worry, the boat doesn’t rock that easily cause the bay itself is quite protected from string waves.

Fishing Village House close up

When you stop by at the fishing village, you are allowed to go down to one of their houses to see their cathes of the day. most of their catch are fresh. If you feel like adding a new menu to your lunch provided on the boat you could get your fresh ingredients from the village itself. But a reminder, price are only in USD and they are not very cheap.

After all, the visit was nice. I get to see a nice scenic view of Halong which I will not be able to get anywhere around the world.
